How to Install a Fridge Wrap: Step-by-Step Guide

A fridge wrap goes on like a very large sticker. With a little patience you can transform your refrigerator in an afternoon. A second pair of hands makes it easier, especially with the tall 70" wraps.

Before you start

  • Try the test sample first. Every order includes a small test piece of the same vinyl. Stick it on a hidden spot of your fridge to see how it feels and holds.
  • Check the surface. Wraps stick best to smooth, clean, dry surfaces such as painted appliance doors and stainless steel. Textured surfaces and fresh paint (less than 2–3 weeks old) are not suitable.
  • Pick a good spot. Work in a well-lit room at normal room temperature.

What you'll need

  • A plastic squeegee (or a bank card wrapped in a soft cloth)
  • A sharp craft knife with a fresh blade
  • Mild soapy water, rubbing alcohol and a lint-free cloth
  • Masking tape

Step 1: Clean and dry the doors

Remove magnets and anything stuck to the doors. Wash them with mild soapy water to remove grease, then wipe with rubbing alcohol on a lint-free cloth. Let the surface dry completely: any dust or grease left under the vinyl will show.

Step 2: Position the wrap

Unroll the wrap and hold it against the door with the backing paper still on. Check that the design is straight and where you want it, then tape the top edge to the fridge with a strip of masking tape so it works like a hinge.

Step 3: Peel and stick from the top down

Flip the wrap up on its tape hinge and peel back 6–8 inches of the backing paper. Lower the wrap onto the door and smooth it with the squeegee from the center outward. Then keep going in small sections: pull the backing down a little at a time and squeegee as you go. Don't peel the whole backing off at once.

Step 4: Push out air bubbles

Push small bubbles toward the nearest edge with the squeegee. If one won't move, prick it with the tip of your knife and press the air out.

Step 5: Trim the edges and cut around handles

Wraps are cut slightly oversized. Run your craft knife along the edge of the door to trim the excess, and cut around handles, dispensers and displays the same way. Don't cover ventilation grilles, door seals or control panels.

Step 6: Press down the edges

Go over all edges and cut-outs once more with firm pressure. Give the adhesive a day to settle before you wipe the doors.

Multi-door fridges

If your wrap is split by doors, start with the largest door, then line up the next panels against it so the design continues across the gaps.

Care and removal

Clean the wrap with a soft damp cloth and mild soap; avoid abrasive sponges and solvents. When you want a change, warm the vinyl gently with a hair dryer and peel it off slowly. Any small adhesive residue comes off with mild soapy water. Please note that a wrap is single use: it can't be re-applied after removal.
